Gratitude

By January 28, 2018 No Comments

Defined as the quality of being thankful and displaying the willingness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.  A simple, and pure practice, being grateful for the people and opportunities in your life has a profound impact on your mental, emotional, and even physical health.

There are research studies on the benefits of gratitude…lots of them!  A regular practice in gratitude helps induce the relaxation response in your body, allowing stress of all kinds to lessen.  People report better sleep quality and clearer communication with others.  Multiple studies have shown a decrease in depressive symptoms and a huge boost in energy and vitality.

It could be the easiest way to happiness!  You will quickly find yourself more optimistic, less materialistic, and develop an increasing awareness of what’s really important to you.  It’s easy to get distracted in today’s world.  We are an overstimulated society that is dealing with a lot of cultural and societal unrest.  Expressing gratitude allows us to connect on a deeper level with what is really important in our lives.  It has the power to strengthen personal and professional relationships while placing you in the drivers seat to uplift and encourage those around you.

Gratitude has the power to transform your life.  If you need a simple way to get started, try taking a few minutes before you go to sleep and think of three things you are truly grateful for.  Even better, visualize yourself in a moment of your life that was incredible.  Allow yourself to experience those feelings and express deep thanks.  Many people use a gratitude journal, in which they will write down things from their day that they are grateful for.  Gift yourself, and others in your life, with this simple practice!
