Justification

By September 4, 2017 No Comments

We all do it. A lot of us don’t realize when or how often we do. Making justifications for habits and behaviors is inherent to our nature. Being comfortable is easy and making changes requires effort. When it comes to our health, being proactive is the best approach. Learn how to break out of your comfort zone.

“I’m fine.” “I don’t need to do that.” “I know what I’m doing.” “There’s no time.” “I’ll see what the doctor says.” “They’re not related.”

Any of those sound familiar? Justifying not making changes to our health habits could have real consequences. Your body is actually quite good at giving you signals that something is out of sync. Tight muscles, headaches, or acid reflux are signals. Anxiety and chronic fatigue should sound an alarm inside your head. Chronic conditions and disease often take years to develop. Unfortunately, most of us ignore the early warning signs.

It’s important to understand that change is hard. It’s a struggle, and you have to be motivated. Find value in yourself, your family, and your career. We all deserve to feel and look our best. Don’t wait until you are forced into making changes. Approach your health habits like long term investments. Do something for yourself every day, educate yourself on fitness and nutrition, and most importantly take responsibility for the way you feel.

When you find yourself in a scenario that forces you to reflect on your health, pause, and notice what your inner dialogue is. Are you open to suggestions? Are you defensive or dismissive? Things that may have worked in our younger years may not work as well today. Try to be present, catch yourself if you are making excuses, and embrace the possibility for change.
