Sunday Meal Prep

By November 4, 2017 No Comments

Rolling into Monday without any planning for your nutrition can set destroy your whole week. Take advantage of Sunday to get food shopping and meal prep done for the next few days. Not only can you have some tasty meals for relaxing on Sunday, but have great leftovers for the next few days.

Preparing for future meals sets the tone for your health. It’s a practice that is recommended universally by every nutritionist and health coach out there. Being proactive for this habit means a few things:

  • Always thinking a few meals ahead
  • Establishing a good shopping routine
  • Setting aside days each week to get your plan in place

For a lot of us, weekends provide time to get caught up around the house and plan for the upcoming week. Getting ourselves and our families armed with 2-3 days of strategic meals will set a healthy tone. It keeps us in control. There won’t be a need for the lazy bagel or bowl of cereal if you have an egg and vegetable frittata from Sunday ready to go. Leftover grilled chicken and vegetables will serve as an easy lunch choice the next day, fending off pizza or deli sandwiches and potato chips.

Sunday is a great day to pencil in for meal prep. Just make extra everything! Grill extra chicken and fish, hard boil eggs, throw together a simple crock pot. Roast some meat and veggies in the oven and pack up the leftovers. Ideally, you can give yourself enough of a base to make it into Tuesday or Wednesday. As time goes on you will establish a rhythm that works for YOU.

A lot of success in fitness and nutrition comes down to being prepared. There are a lot of great options available now. Grocery delivery, pre-made healthy meals, or a good old fashioned rotisserie chicken are great options. Prepare your own healthy options a few times a week and compliment with alternatives when you need to. Most importantly, the conscious practice of planning what and when you will eat will prevent you from eating foods void of nutrients that will set you back. Start on Sundays!
