Quick, tasty, and easy. Who doesn’t like that? If you’re not taking advantage of fresh (or frozen) steamed vegetables, you need to start.  Here’s the basics:

Equipment: You’ll need a designated steamer pot (insert with the holes in it) or a steamer basket.

Timing: Most vegetables will take about 5-7 minutes to steam. Denser vegetables (potatoes, carrots, etc.) will need to be cut smaller or steamed for longer. A little practice makes perfect on this.

Flexibility: Frozen veggies and “steam in the bag” for the microwave are great options. We steam bags of frozen broccoli all week long; it’s just easier. Even though it’s one step away from fresh, it’s a quicker option that’s still healthy.

Vegetables That Are Great Steamed: Broccoli, Cauliflower, Carrots, String Beans, Asparagus, Sweet Potato, Spinach

Top With: Olive Oil/Coconut Oil/Butter, Sea Salt, Pepper, Fresh Lemon
