Reasons It’s Hard Giving Up Processed Foods

By January 28, 2018 No Comments

It’s not easy out there!  We’re fighting an uphill battle to reclaim our health.  If you’re having a hard time giving up the sweets or the crunch, here’s some of the underlying reasons…

You’re Addicted:  Processed foods were designed to make you consumers.  Refined sugar has been shown to be as addictive as cocaine.  Refined carbohydrates take your body on a blood sugar roller coaster, leaving you crashing and craving more.  Chemical additives leave your body confused and starving for actual nutrients.  It’s a vicious cycle that promotes disease.  Realizing the power they have is the first step to breaking free!

Path of Least Resistance:  It’s human nature to do what’s easiest.  We are a product of our environments and processed foods are more available and easier to eat than cooking a nutritious meal.  The grocery stores, gas stations, and vending machines all provide easy and inexpensive access to junk food.  Meal prep takes time.  So does packing your lunch and snacks.  It’s easier to do one grocery shop every two weeks at Costco than it is to buy fresh food 2-3 times a week at the local grocery store.  This is something that can be overcome, but you have to want to do it.

You Don’t Understand How Bad They Really Are:  More than half of Americans have a chronic disease, with more than 25% having multiple.  Nearly 70% of Americans are on prescription drugs.  Over 35% of our country is classified as obese, including almost 20% of kids.  All of these major numbers are trending in the wrong direction.  Eliminate, or at the very least reduce, refined flour, sugar, packaged and processed foods.  The food you eat has a direct effect on every system in your body.  A nutrient dense diet based on vegetables, fruits, and healthy fats gives you the best opportunity to control your health.
