Top 3 Signs You Are Dehydrated

The body is made up of over 70% water and is constantly using it for literally every bodily function. If you fail to give your body what it needs, it will let you know. Ignore these symptoms and you can put yourself at serious risk…

Lightheaded, or Dizzy: Your blood pressure is greatly influenced by the amount of water your body has to work with (your blood is roughly 50% water, in the form of plasma). If you get lightheaded when you stand up quickly, or dizzy during light activities, it’s very possible you are dehydrated.   Pay extra attention during hot and humid weather, as this will increase your natural demand for water.

Muscle Cramps or Fatigue: Joints, muscles, and nerves all require healthy fluid balance to operate at an optimal level. Localized or chronic tightness often indicates dehydration. Feeling like you have no energy or are exhausted (almost sick feeling) is your body trying to limit activity to reserve what fluids you have available. Begin to hydrate slowly until you feel better.

You’re Thirsty (and not peeing much): Don’t ignore the obvious ones! Thirst and dry mouth will be your first early indicators. Pay attention to your body and learn how to respond appropriately. If you haven’t peed in a while, it’s because you don’t have any excess fluid! A more severe sign of dehydration will be darker colored urine. Please don’t wait until then.

Make drinking water a regular part of your day. Move away from juices and sodas loaded with sugar. Drink regular old H2O, it’s what your body is made of. Being dehydrated can go from bad to worse. Rapid heartbeat, breathing, sunken eyes, or fainting could require medical assistance. Be aware of your physical exertion, changes in humidity and temperature, and if you are fighting off an illness. Be conscious and act smart.
